PICTURE PERFECT....

We all want that picture perfect look, well here are some of the tricks I use to achieve just that. I hope all you dolls out there find useful tips that work for you...

1. BRONZER I am certainly one to use Bronzer and it is a great way to illuminate ones skin. It brings about this glow that is just so inviting and makes skin look flawless. It’s perfect for the summer, and is a great way to embrace your new sun kissed complexion. I use the MAC bronzer which is absolutely amazing on all skin types and is a mineralize skin finish that’ll take your glow to the next level. But be careful, Bronzers are usually highly pigmented, so too much of it can make you look too shiny rather golden if not applied in moderation.

2. BRUSHES The application of your make up is so important and it takes a while to get it down packed to be honest. I use brushes and sponges but I must say you usually get a better finish when you use the appropriate brush. I have been using the MAC Brush Collection which is phenomenal. The bristles are organic and anti-bacterial. I have a few favorites I won’t lie apart from the foundation and sculpting brush. They all just give a super finish be it for applying lipstick, eye shadow they all do the trick. And if high end cosmetic brushes are out of your league, don’t fret. They’ve got some great options at your local drugstore as well.

3. MATCH It is IMPERATIVE that you test your foundation on the back of your hand before you purchase it! Better yet go to a make-up studio and have them test out all the various products until you get your true match. It is grueling to see someone with a shade that’s too light or dark. Now I have had a few instances where I notice that as summer creeps in my make-up doesn’t seem to work with my skin so I have a summer and winter foundation which is something some of you will have to look into and also these products change over time, it doesn’t hurt to just get an update on what will work on your skin every once in a while. Bottom-line there is no way to play off the wrong color at all. Not even with powder. Get it right the first time and avoid the embarrassment.

4. SKIN CARE Your make up will only cover up so much. You need to take care of your skin underneath. I try and avoid using too much concealer. I suggest cleansing twice a day and exfoliating twice a week. Find a regimen that works for you, whether you have dry, normal, and oily or combination skin. Make up should not cover be a cover-up, but instead it should actually assist in enhancing your features. If you have a healthy, clean palette then you can paint a beautiful picture just as you would on a blank canvass. (NOTE: Never, EVER, EVER sleep with your make up on; we all have had those nights where it just doesn’t seem like it will make a difference but truth be told it is Extremely detrimental to your skin.)

5. BROWS Eyebrows truly shape your face. I have tried a few places to shape my eyebrows using wax or threading and haven’t been as successful in South Africa as I result I do it myself and then use a Twinkle brow shaper to maintain along the way. I am terrified of tweezers so I avoid them like the plague, but if it’s your go to option then by all means do that. Make sure they’re not too thin and too thick. I lean more towards a natural full look although finding a balance is key for any woman. If you’re unsure, practice drawing in a “draft” brow with an eyebrow pencil or even with a stencil. When you find the shape you like, clean up everything else. It amazing just how a brow shape can instantly change the look of a face - When your brows are on, your face is on.

6. MODERATION Caked on make-up is the worst! The key is to look natural. You can have many products on at once, but as long as it doesn’t look like it, you’re good to go. Just play around with a few options and see how it looks on you. Like they say practice makes perfect.

7. HAIR One thing we sometimes forget is the shape of our face and the cherry on top as I like to call it. Now having your make-up look flawless with messed up hair doesn’t quite make it right. Hair can flatter our face or point out that it’s too round or narrow. Style according to what will make your face standout. If you have long bangs that cover up your eyelids, you probably shouldn’t rock a colorful eye shadow although the peek-a-boo effect is one I don’t shy away from. If you hair is pulled up, then your contouring should be up to par because you’re giving them nothing but face so it certainly has to be the point of focus. To get to the point, make up, brows and hair is the entire “face” package.
