Foot Fetish: A Splash of Colour

So nail polish has always taken the spotlight when it comes to colour. We have seen in recent years though that people are becoming bolder with shoe colours too and in my case bags and shoes may be an obsession, but it works for those who get them as a necessity as well. And if anyone knows me and my feet, comfort no matter how sky high my inches of heels get me closer to heaven is of the utmost importance.

Gone are the days of sticking to the usual black, brown and navy. I have always lived by that and maybe a sassy red pair to wear on those days I feel daring enough but for the most part I stuck to the tried and tested .I look at pictures of when I was younger at times and see that my fashion certainly blossomed from my mum as I used to try out her outfits after my tomboy phase had come to pass. I must say Tomboy and I are not quite in the same sentence anymore although the manly fashionable clothing such as waist coats that I absolutely love is making an appearance lately. I have however defied that mould since then and experimented with shoe colours. I am now one who loves all hues of colours on shoes and I am certainly not scared to take on the look be they pumps, sandals, flats, heels of any sort, I am willing to give them a try. No matter what style you lean towards, which varies from classic, feminine, fashion forward, bohemian chic, there is always room for that jolt of a statement when you walk in a room with anything other than the black shoe that we all gravitate towards. Colour on one’s feet is fast proving to add an element of interest to an otherwise boring/ordinary look. As I stated earlier most women stick to the tried and tested brown and black shoes as they go with everything but here is a PSA I want to put out to all women: Colour… Colour… Colour… And while you’re considering what shape, design suits you – always remember three little words that can help ease that stress of picking a fabulous shoe, comfort, lifestyle, and personality. I for one work in a corporate industry where colour may not always be seen as a good accent, but I make it work for me, even if I wear a power suit a punch of colour is usually present to show my personality no matter how straight and narrow I can sometimes be. We may be heading towards winter, but don’t hang up your colourful shoes just yet… I recommend having a pair of pumps with flair of colour one can use even in the winter months apart from the colourful opaque tights (stockings). If it’s your fist time going out on a shopping spree for that colourful paint on your pretty show stopping feet, I suggest solid colours like red, hunter / tropical green, blue, sunny yellow, purple, teal, candy pink, grapefruit / citrus orange-let’s just say I have tried a few of these rainbow colours and I absolutely love them especially if it has a funky heel to add to the look. If you feel those colours are too bold for you and you want to take baby steps to that 1st fire engine red pair, then I suggest trying out muted colours, they are fabulous too. As the weather cools towards fall, I start to add a few caramels, tans, mustards to my simple black outfits as well as the usual browns. Textures and patterns are also a way to go, floral, animal skin/print, fish scales, snake skin, patent leather shoes, it’s all about bringing out that hint of your personality and shoes and bags are always a great option to try out.

Still on shoes, I thought I would dish out some ideas on how to pair these colourful shoes. The best staple of any closet apart from the LBD is Jeans. We all have these. A pair of jeans and a colourful shoe is a perfect match. Always compliment your solid shoe colour with the top you wear when you have a neutral base such as denim no matter the shade otherwise accessories as always can help that look carry through if you pair it with a basic white oxford shirt. For printed shoes on the other hand it’s best to pair them with solid tops, and these shoes work on dresses, and other casual or formal pants and/or jackets- but always remember that too much of a good thing is not always the way to go in fashion but to the rocker chicks I say rock on and wear your entire accessory closet if you can pull it off. When in all black, it never hurts to have that pop of colour in matching shoes and a bag (clutch):- Think red, black, blue and white, you can play around with accessories, shoes and bags and make it work for you just like when you experiment with unexpected colour combinations like blue and green or blue and purple.

Best Buy Tip…. If you can only afford that one wild pair with a splash of colour, I suggest you make it an all year round type of shoe preferably closed-toe pump that you can rock with pants, skirts, dresses, casual or when you’re all dolled up. I am always about a worthwhile investment although it may cost an arm and a leg for you to start, the key is to make that shoe work for you honey and take you to higher heights. I am all about stepping out in style when conquering the catwalks of jozi streets and I say this to all the beautiful ladies that read these articles, show passion even in the way you walk by adding that splash of colour so those with the shoe fetish can compliment you on your feet… I have to say there is something sexy every man and/or woman recognises when a woman has that extra something, something in her step…. They may say it’s all in the hips, but the shoe helps bring that pretty girl swag to light…
